Abstract :
This paper will first look at the way war transformed the landscape and cityscape of Jamshedpur. This region around the city was one of the inner frontiers of resource appro- priation over the course of the 19th century that turned into a military frontier during the Second World War. Wartime inflation and food shortages forced the state to recast its rela- tionship with its subjects. The war also had a significant impact on company management policies. The paper illustrates this with presenting the issues of food prices, discipline, technical training and the rehabilitation of disabled workers.
