A gammakitörések utófényei

Abstract

A gammakitörések eredetének és mechanizmusának megfejtéséhez elengedhetetlen a kitörések forrásainak megtalálása. Az első próbálkozás a kitörések helyének meghatározására a bolygóközi hálózat volt. A második kísérlet pedig a BATSE nyolc detektorának felhasználásával történt, de ez sem hozott eredményt. A gamma-kitörések optikai utófényeit végül a Beppo-SAX műhold azonosította.

The finding of the source of gamma-ray bursts is essential to unravelling the mechanism and origin of these phenomena. The first attempt to determine the location of the bursts was the interplanetary network. The second attempt was the eight detectors of the BATSE, but they still brought no results. The gamma-ray bursts optical afterglow was finally identified by the Beppo-SAX satellite.
